Plumber for Vancouver homes

Vancouver has some of the oldest housing stock in the region, and plumbing in a 1920s Craftsman or a 1950s Vancouver Special is very different from a new build. We regularly work in East Van, Kitsilano, Kerrisdale, Mount Pleasant and South Vancouver on everything from a dripping faucet to a full repipe.

Vancouver homes we work on

  • Pre-1940 character homes with cast iron drains, galvanised supply lines and clay sewer laterals.
  • 1960s–1970s Vancouver Specials, often with suites added later and plumbing that wasn't designed for two households.
  • Laneway homes and new duplexes that need new service lines and careful tie-ins to existing plumbing.

Common plumbing problems in Vancouver

Galvanised supply pipe

Older homes often still have galvanised steel lines that rust from the inside, causing low pressure and brown water. A repipe is the permanent fix.

Cast iron drain corrosion

Cast iron stacks and drains can crack or scale shut after 70+ years. We camera-inspect and replace failing sections.

Roots in clay laterals

Mature street trees on Vancouver's older blocks send roots into clay sewer joints. Jetting clears them; spot repair or replacement keeps them out.

Suite plumbing and hot water demand

Homes with a rental suite often run out of hot water. Upsizing the tank or switching to tankless usually solves it.

Typical Vancouver jobs

  • Galvanised-to-PEX repipe in an East Van character home
  • Cast iron stack section replacement in a Kitsilano house
  • Root clearing and camera inspection on a clay sewer lateral
  • Tankless install for a home with a basement suite
  • Laneway house water service tie-in

Vancouver price guide

Main line drain clearing$250 – $450
Cast iron drain section replacement$900 – $2,500
Hydro jetting a root-filled lateral$500 – $1,200
Whole-house repipe (PEX)$8,000 – $18,000

Typical ranges including labour and standard parts. Every job gets one flat price, approved by you before work starts.

Vancouver plumbing FAQ

My Vancouver home has galvanised pipe. Do I need to replace it?

Galvanised pipe corrodes from the inside and won't get better. If you have low pressure or discoloured water, replacing it is usually worth planning for.

Do you work on heritage and character homes?

Yes. We plan routes carefully to keep openings small and preserve original finishes wherever possible.

Is there an extra charge for Vancouver?

No. Vancouver is a regular part of our service area and is quoted the same way as Richmond.
